~ CRICKET* SPECIAL MEETING OF CONTROL. SOUTH CLUB. ITS FINANCE AND PROSPECTS, r CLUB FEES CHANGED, A; special general meeting of the Wellington' Cricket -Association was held last night'.'to consider tliree. notices, of mo-; tion, Nineteen delegates were present, . and- Mr.-IT. J..Luckio: presided;. ; ; 'To, Help the. South Club." Air. Burbltfga' moved:—"That tho;. Soiuth,. District Club for the season 1911-IDJ2 lie granted permission "to 'recruit its membership up to seven additional members outside its boundaries. In speaking to thp motion, Mr. Burbidgo, stated that his chief, object was to help ."'tho'.South Club. He had been given to understand that the South Club needed • facilities , .to, get members jnore.."than financial assistance.. He, therefore*--thought that it was the, duty of tile association • tot help the ciul) in somo.sncb way as was-suggested in his motion; The club had. a senior, eleven, and, over and above these; there weifl only about. seven players available tor the'junior team. His opinion was that it would bo serious if the association lost the lew from tho. South Club. As to tho effect of tho motion on tho district -scheme, ..lie did not. tuinß would bo to kill it, as some might suggest. Tho motion would only applythis* season. Mr. W. S. Hood seconded. \ Ml'. -I'V A. - laws remarked that the , club had now. 23 members. The membership had been swelled through the Od]in ' Club having become defunct, and its members having joined the South Club. He wished to refute the statement that the South Club had cried "stinking fish.'* People who made such statements,, ought to bo careful that the nail w'as no (. driven into their own £omu. Mr. 'Laws went on to say that tho South Club would now be able to put iwo teams in tho, field, and, that being: so, he did not see any reason to press the motion. He thought, however, that the association might have given the club more consideration on the p occasion when it placed the nature of its difficulties be-fore-them.; ' ' , Mr. Burbidge then said that, under tho /circumstances, he would ask leavo to withdraw the motion. Mi'. Luckie stated that the association fully realised that the South district was the home of many small associations and clubs which were outside the Wellington Cricket Association. The East Club, through its delegate, had expressed willingness' to jgive South a portion of its territory next season. He felt sure that a motion to give South more ground would be introduced prior to nest seaion.- ... The motion was withdrawn. . Club Fees. Mn'W'B. Willis mored:—"That the words 'senior grade, ten guineas, other amies five . guineas,' in RnJe 11 of the Rules of tho Wellington Cricket Association, bs deleted, and the following words inserted in-lieu thereof: 'For senior district clubs—Five guineas for entrance for Benior. championship,-, three guineas for entrance for junior championship, and two guineas for entrance for _ third-class championship; any senior district club entering more than ouo team for any championship, ouo guinea estra for each additional team. For junior .district clubs, and all other clybs, five guineas. Speaking reference to his motion, Mr. Wills said that lie did not see why riibs entering different numbers of teams ' should pay an equal amount in entranco fees. He "intended tho motion to be retrospective.- <' Mr. J. Fanning seconded pro forma. .He did not think, however, that the association could afford to put the suggestion into practico in view of tho present stato of tho association's, -finances. - The' chairman ruled that, the motion could not, on account of its wording, bo regarded as retrospective. In consequence of this ruling, a vote was taken. It was decided that the motion should be regarded as retrospective. Mr. M. J. Crombie then moved that tha motion should be amended so that the latter part of the resolution would read: "Any club entering more than one team for any championship should pay three guineas for any additional senior; tcani, two guineas for any additional jnnior team, and.one-gninea for.any . additional' third-clafs team." " Air. Willis seconded.pro fornia. ... .. , Tha motion was carried, and a proviso was made that no team should, pay moro than ten guineas for this season. ' Constitution of Committee. Mr.- M. J. Crombie moved:—"That Rule t be altered to read as under, the alteration to take effect from the dab of the attnual general meeting in 1912:—'The affairs of the association shall bo managed by a managing, committee (to bo elected lit cach'annual general meeting) consisting pfveight delegates .and; tho secretary and treasurer, but'in thf event'of the secretary or the treasurer .being a salaried nfficer, he, or if both are, they, shall be entitled 10. atteud meetings of tho committee, ,but shall not havo a vote, and shall not.tako any active part in the business' transacted, and shall not be counted i«' tho quorum. Five members of Ihe committee shall form u, quorum. Rule to as at present.". , . Mr. Crombio contended (hat under tho Dxisting sjTStem I hero was a'tendency for the members of the committee to become club barrackers rather thuu workers for the goneral body of cricket. Mr. V. B. Willis seconded. ,Ho said that' in addition fo broadening the working principle of tho committee, (he committee would be directly answerable to the association, while tho present committco Was answerable to tho various clubs. Mr. M." F.' Luckie said that, it /was a •well-known principlo that, any management committco to bo successful should bo ■working together for one central objectin this case the good of the association. Time and again ho had found members of the committee coming down bound hand and foot to their own club's interests on matters affecting the association as a whole. It had been with them a case of club first, association second. Mr". C. Hickey held that, it was a mistaken idea that the association came before tho clubs. If it were not, for the clubs there would not be any association. The clubs provided the cricket and the fpes. If the committee was elected by the general body of delegates, they would be answerable fo no one. Tho motion was carried by 9 votes (o S. Ordinary Business, The committee of the 'Wellington Cricket Association met. last evening. Mr. 31. F. Luckie presided. . It was reported 'that the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association had suggested December 23, 21, and 25 as tho dates for a match, with .Wellington. .
