NEW WAITING-HOUSE.

FOR COURTENAY PLACE EAST. The City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton) has reported to tho Town Clerk ro the proposal to erect a waiting-house at the oastern end of Courtonay Place, which will be commodious enough to cope with the growing needs of tho busiest stoppingplaco in tho city:— • "I have, preparod a plan showing tho proposed arrangement of conveniences for men and women, Courtenay Place. Tho plans also include the provision of a small shop and a verandah, extending tho whole width_ of the building. The estimated cost is JEIGOO. Two alternative plans aro indicated for the consideration of the council. That on tho tracing is recommended by me, and shows a path through tho reserve as requested by tho shopkeepers. I do not know of any proposal before tho council regarding atramway proceeding up Majoribauks Street. "I do not see any necessity at present for moving the express stand at the northern side of thb reserve. Thcso stands havo to be provided, but should in all cases, I think, bo properly naved and drained. If any alteration in tho traffic is mado at this intersection, then I am of opinion that it would be advisable to movo the express stand into Clyde Quay. I do not consider it advisable to curtail the length of tho reserve. Such places, particularly when planted as this is, are of great benefit in minimising tho dust nuisance. This is recognised in all cities, and plantations aro mado for this particular purpose."
