Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Napier, advertise in this issue G9OO acres of freehold land, which they have for sale. The property is about seven miles from Waipukurau. Tenders are invited by the Maoriltnd Steamship Co., Ltd., for the construction of a four-bladcd cast-iron propeller for the s.s. Lauderdale. Specifications may be seen and inspected at the company's office, Jervois Quay. Erected in 1752, a flonr mill at Ruswarp (Yorkshire), belonging to Sir Francis Ley, was destroyed by fire on September 25. Feu* the 6econd time this year a chestnut tree in the railway station yard at Stowmarket (Suffolk) has been in full bloom. Dufferin flour mills, Belfast, were almost completely destroyed by fire on September 24, tho damage being estimated at over ioO.OOO. Leaves of the' large cactus plants at Hampton Court Palace have been dam-' aged by visitors cutting their names and initials on them.
