November 14, 9.45 p.m.) London, Novcmbor 14. ...The, by-election for tho Oldham seat, which was rendered necessary owing to the Right Hon. Alfred Emmott, Liberal, having been raised to the Peerage, resulted .as follows :— Mr. E. R. B. Denniss (Unionist)... 12,255 Mr. Stanley (Liberal) „... 10,623 Mr. Robinson (Labour) 7,448 At the general election in December last, Mr. Emmott (Liberal) secured 17,101 votes, Mr. A. W. Barton (Liberal) 16,941; Mr. A. E. Wright (Conservative) 13,440, and Mr. E. R. B. Denniss 13,281. The averago Liberal majority was 3664. At tho by-election just held, the Liberal majority is converted into a minority of 1632.
