Sir Edward Grey (Secretary of Stato for Foreign Allnirs), speaking in the llouso of Commons, said the alleged publication of articles by tho British Ambassador in Vienna (Sir V. L. Cartwright), criticising German policy, and a speech l)y Mr. Reginald M Jvonna (then Pirst Lord of tho Admiralty), •at Monmouthshire, on September 28 last—a speech which resulted in violent Anglophobe comments in German newspapers—havo been subjects for communications between tho British and German Governments. They were not of a nature to causo difficulties. The incidents had been construed in Germany into intentional affronts, and had aroused great resentment. Tho Ambassador and Mr. M'Kenna havo been tho victims of newspaper errors. Sir Edward warned tho country that if falsa news was recorded and believed by tho public, tho resentment would sonic day go beyond tho Government's control.
