ORDER PLACED AT DUMBARTON. ■ It was stated in Tub Dominion of March 3, 1911, that the Union Company wero about to piace an order at Homo for a. new turbine steamer to repiaee tho Marmoa in the Wcllington-LyUeltQii ferry service. On March 11 it was stated that tho now "flier" would bo larger than the Maori and of greater speed, probably two knots Word has now reached Wellington that tho Union Comnany has placed a contract with Denny Bros.. Dumbarton, for the steamer in question. Her dimensions will bo 37'11't.. length with a beam of 51ft. The new vessel will thus be 24ft. longer than tho Maori, and 4ft. wider. tiho will have turbine engines, as the Maori has. but will l>3 much faster than tho present ferry boat. ' _ In round figures, tho cost of tho Maori was about .£120,000. It is reported that tho new vessel's passenger accommodation will bo larger than that of the liresent turbine steamer.
