_ At the Huntingdon Board of Guardians, the workhouse master reported that an inmate, aged 85, and very infirm and deaf, who was admitted by him, was possessed of £\h . A guardian stated that the "pauper" had XIOOO in the bank. It was agreed to ask tba man's son to take him away, maintenance in the meantime to bo charged at the rate of 10s. a week. Crops in Mid-Dorset have suffered much from tho depredations of sparrows, and at Milborne the farmers organised a spa Trow club, paying 4d. a dozen for old birds, 2d. a dozen for young birds, ond l\i. a dozen for eggs. As a result 2721 birds were killed during the past season, and iSH eggs taken, and damago to crops has been considerably less than in past summers.
