OTAKI ITEMS.
At tho monthly meeting of the Otaki Road Board this week, a request was made by Messrs. Bird Brothers for road work at North Manakau. Tho request was held over. It was decided to give the local streets more attention, and, if possible, to clear weeds by using a certain weed destroyer, which had been tested. In response to a request from the roadman, it was decided to view the Rangiuru Road for the purpose of examining decaying wood-work, and also with a view of having repairs effected. Tho sanitary inspector reported two cases of infectious disease. Mr. J. Robertson, Labour candidate for Otaki, addressed the electors here this week. The candidate dealt with tho land question, defence, Legislative Council, education and Civil Service reform. Mr. Field, M.P., spoke at Waikanao to a crowded attendance, his speech being marked by frequent applause. Mr. Byron Brown had a highly-success-ful meeting at Odlin's mill, and Mr. Monckton spoke to a large "house" at Te Horo, and received an attentive hearing.
