TONGA QUIET AGAIN.
0 (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, November 5. News received from Tonga by the steamer Atua is to tlie eilcct that everything in the island kingdom is again peaceful. "The adieu of. tho High Commissioner," according to a correspondent, "has had a most beneficial ed'ert on the place and tho people, and it is hoped that the day is not far distant when the British Resident will be. appointed by the British Government." Files to hand slate that" the atmosphere of Tonga lias underjono a purification, now, as the King and his Cabinet have again full power. The ■Government is retrenching the offices which had been lately established, and winch were a lieavv strain on tho 'fongan Treasury. Mr. 11. W. Watkin, late Collector of Customs, has been appointed Treasurer, and Mr. Garfield BagnaU has succeeded Mr. YVutkin as Collector.
