WILARI WINS DERBYTRAFALGAR'S GREAT VICTORY. IN MELBOURNE STAKES. By Ye!e£:raph~Pre:)3 Association—Copytisht (Rec. November i, SAO p.m.) Flomington, November i. After a bleak wintry week, "brilliant sunshine and a south broezo 'ushered in Derby Day. By noon tho rays of the sun were very hot. The crowd almost equalled in numbers some of the past Cup days, and the stands were too crowded for tho bright show of spring costumes to bo seen to. advantage, though the whole made a brilliant effect. Tho GovernorGeneral and the State Governor were present with large parties. The course was in good order, though not favourable to records. The racing programmo was particularly . attractive, additional interest attaching this year to the decision of the three-year premiership.' Tho classic race was also taken as a guide to tho three-year-olds' running in the Melbourne Cup. The mile and a quarter weight-for-age raco was also a big factor, and it was regarded as particularly unfortunate that Malt King was nnablo to do battle against Comedy King, especially in the light of the lato gallop by Malt King this morning, when he covered tho first half-milo in 50sec.,,fivo furlongs in lmin. 2sec, six furlongs in lrnin. lGscc, seven in lmin. 29sec, a mile in lmin. 12sec, and nine furlongs in lmin. 57sec.
