A MORE MEX FUND. On tho motion of Mr. Tunks, the Aucklaud Anglican Synod last veck solved that a fund bp immediately rajsed to assist candidates for tho ministry tiho are unable to provide for tlieir oimi trainin;r, for wliom no scholarships are able, such candidates to serve in the diocesa for at least five years after ordination, the fund to bo raised by a special committee and administered by the Bishop and Standing Committee. The Rev. P. T. Williams (warden of St. John's College) said tbat; nt pres.mt_ here were six men at St. Johns? College \\hou> supported by private contributions, and two men partly supported by such contributions. Six of theso moil would be vol king eventually in tho Auckland diocese. With tho assistance of one of the pneTnors he had raised tho sum of X'3oo m aid of this objcct. , The Bishop announced, amidst applause, that the lav readers of the diocese had already met in response to this appeal, and had undertaken to support a studciu at St. John's College for tnreo years from the beginning of 1912. The sum of .£3O or .£lO was collected at tha meeting, which was not attended by a quarter of the lay readers of the diocese. Ho coirected a statement made in a southern paper to tho effect that ho desired to exclude all but theological students from St. Johns College. Nothing was further from his mind.
