* ■ (From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, October 30. Mr. A. W. Chapman, of this town, received word on .Saturday of the death of his lather, Mr. Joseph Chapman, m Wellington. Deceased, who was seventy-seven years of age, was a very old luentity. The llov. Alfred Hodge, of Hastings, who has accepted a call to the Napier Congregational Church, will begin duty in his new pastorate early next week. Tho Homing Pigeon Club organised a very succcfoful race from 'I'" 1 ? 1 '" 011 Sunday. The airlino distance of 3-7 miles was negotiated by the winning bird (Mr. \v. Hoar's "Beetemall") in two seconds under eight hours. Mr. W. Draite is at present leading for this year 3 club ag•Ynnirereary services in connection with th" Congregational Sunday School were held yesterday, the pulpit being occupied morning and evening by the Keu u. Bawden Harris, of Alicetown. . The Tararua Ranges aro again almost entirely free from snow, and it is hoped, for the sake of tho potato crow, that tlwy will remain so. The ilis-tric. is never free from frosts so long as theie is snow in the ranges.
