CHRONOMETER-RATING NOTICE. A galvanometer signal for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory at 1 p.m. to-day to the Museum and the Public Telegraph Office. The needle will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand mean time, at which hour a chronometer set to Greenwich mean time should show 15h. 30m. MOERAKI LEAVES SYDNEY. Cable advice rcc-eived by tho local office of the Union Company dates that tho Moeraki cleared Sydney for Wellington at 2 p.m. on Saturday. She is cxpectcnl to arrive at this port on Wednesday mornins, and is bringing 141 saloon and 121 Btccrago passengers to New Zealand. Owiwjj to the wharf labourers' strike at the New South Wales port there are only about 240 tons of general cargo coining to hand by the ve?s-el. According to a wireless message received last nisht. the vessel is experiencing fine weather, with smooth sea. The mcesago also stated that the vessel was 779 miiefl from Sydney. AYRSHIRE AT AUCKLAND. At 7 p.m. on Sunday the F.-H.-S. steamer Ayrshire arrived at Auckland from Liverpool, and berthed at tho wharf yesterday morning. She continues - her journey to Wellington on Friday, and is due hero either on Sunday night or early on Monday morning. The Ayrshire haa 32C0 tons nf cargo to discharge at WcJlinctou before proceeding south. ATHENIC LEAVES HOBART. Advice received by the local agents for the Shaw, Savill. and Albion Company is to the effect that R.M.S. Athenic left Hobart for Wellington at 5 a.m. on Saturday. The vessel, which is en route from London, is expected to make port about 8 a.m. tomorrow. A notice to consignees of cargo appears in this issue. TURAKINA DUE TO-MORROW. Advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company intimates that R.M.S. Turakina left Hobart, in continuation of her voyage from London to Wellington at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The vessel is expected to arrive in port about noon to-mor-row. Upon completion of discharge of her 65C0 tons of Wellington cargo, the Turakina leaves for Lyttelton, probably on Saturday. KENT'S OUTWARD CARGO. Early yesterday morning the F.-H.-S. Line's steamer Kent left the Bluff for Avonmouth, via Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Port Said. At 8 a.m. to-day the Government Gtear mer Ilinemoa leaves Wellington for Jackeon Head and The Brothers. She will aleo be engaged in locating somo rocks which have been reported to exist in the vicinity of the latter place. The Hiuemoa returns to Wellington about Thursday, and loaves port for northern lighthouses on Saturday. Yesterday morning the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rirautaka was dockcd at Port Chalmers for cleaning and painting, prior to leaving lor the norili for Home loading. The new steamer Indrnpurali, which wau launched at Wallsend, England, on October 12, is making her maiden trip to New Zealand under the auspices of the Tytcr Company. She is due at Auckland about February 7. , Captain A. Carson, late of the Rakanoa, is to transfer to the Waihora when that vessel arrives at Auckland from Westport. The crew of the Terra Nova have returned from holiday leave, ajid a large amount of routine work is being carricd out on the veseol in preparation for her return journey to the Antarctic. A consignment of stores and equipment is now on its way to Lyttelton, and is due about the middle of next month. The vessel is to leave Lyttelton on her relief cruiso on Decern* her 15. An early arrival in port thin morning from Liverpool, via Auckland, will bo the Tyser liner Nerehana-. The vessel will berth at No. 16 Jervois Quay to diecharge cargo, and is expected to get away for southern ports on Thursday or Friday, Canopus, s.s., leaves Wellington to-day for Westport, and returns about Friday with another load of coal for the Westport Coal Compauy. The Koromiko is due here from tho West Ooa-st port with similar cargo towards tho end of this week. Owing to being bar-bound at Patca, the coastal steamer Aorere is not expecicd to arrive at Wellington before to-morrow. She leaves on the return trip the same day. The Union coaster Kini, which has been undergoing repairs at Wellington, sailed for Greymouth loot evening. She carries the same officers as formerly, with tho exception that Mr. F. G. Smith, late of the Mararoa, is eecond officer, and Mr. S. Malvood, late of the Oswestry Grange, is third. | Mr. L. M'Murrick, second engineer of the Mapourika, left the vessel at Wellington ycoterday. Mr E. N nail, chief officer of the Monowai, came ashore for orders yesterday. Captain Ryan, who has been in charge of the Union Company's tug Tcrawluti, has joined the Monowai as chief olhcer. La*t night the Government steamer Amokura left Picton for Cook Strait and the Bluff. Flora, s.s., left Wellington for Greymouth la?t night. She returns with a cargo of coal. The Poherua is due here to-morrow from the same port. Arahura, over-Strait packet, arrived at Grevmouth from Westport at 2 p.m. yesterday, and was to have left for Wellington, via way ports', at midnight. She is expected to leave Westport a.t 3 p.m. todav, in continuation of her journey, and should arrive in port .to-morrow evening. It will 1)0 to-morrow before the Haupiri reaches Wellington from Auckland, via East Coast ports and bays. She makes a run to Greymouth and hack before proceeding on her usual northern trip on Monday next. Word has been received in Wellington stating that the Union Company's training ship Dartford cleared Eureka (U.S.A.) on October 15 for Sydney and Newcastle.
