PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Onr Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, October 30. Last week it was mentioned that trouble had arisen over tho drainage works at tho new saleyards erected by the Manawatu Auctioneers' Association. Mr. W". Milvcrton raised an objection to a' drain which had been dug on tho roadside near his property. The Borough Council supported Mr. Milvcrton in his objection, and called upon the Auctioneers' Association to give an indemnity. This was couched in such terms, however, that the association could not see its way clear to comply. The association has expressed its willingness lo negotiate with Mr. Milverton if the council will withdraw from the position which it has taken up, and, in the meantime, work at the yards has been stopped. A sum of £A 15s. has been contributed to the fund of the proposed children's ward at the Palmerston Hospital by the staff of the Whakaronga Chcoso Factory, through the manager (Mr. P. Walsh). As tho result of a "social," held at Kairar.ga, a sum of „£5 10s. has teen raised for the samo object. in January next, Mrs. Maurice Cohen proposes lo leave on an eighteen months' visit to England. Sho will be accompanied by hor son Alan, who will continue his education at Home. While Mrs. Cohen is away, her residence in Grey Street will bo occupied by Mr. R. S. Abraham, who has let his property at Tiritea lo Captain Hamilton, of tho Defence Department. At the Police Court this moniing about a dozen cyclists were fined 10s. each and costs for riding on footpaths. T. Hunt was fined 10s. and 9s. costs for travelling on tho Tailway between Wellington and To Horo without a ticket.
