Sir Joseph Ward: 1 am bnnnil to say that they have not been carried on fairly in reward to myself, for I have had to give inslructions to my own lawyers within Ihe last L'S hours to proceed against a newspaper lor a cross libel. Mr. Masse,v: I have had to do that. Sir Joseph Ward: 1 have in my possession' half a, dozen apologies froal different newspapers tor having libelled me at different time?, end now I liave had to take proceedings for a fires'; libel, and I never withdraw in such ease;. Wlion found, as ] have found in Ihis particular case, that oneof miserable, wretched, contemptible insinuations has been made and has pot into print, I had t'o do as I had intended to do in regard to a certain private individual, but I have received an explanatory statement which has been made by him'. [ intend to carry the election on as a hard light, but fighting fairly. (Hear, hear.)
