GRANTS RECOMMENDED. Grants totalling X 420 have been rccom. mended by the Under-Secretary for Lands for twcnly-Uireo of tho veterans who claimed recognition for servico in New XeaUuid. The stipendiary magistrate recommended tliirty-niuo claimants for favourable consideration. These recommendations lmd been examined and compared with oilier claims, with the result that twenty-thrco persons have boon passed, and tbo sum of iM2O is tho total amount involved, Thoro remain sixteen cases favourably reported upon by tho magistrates which arc not included in tho Undcr-Sccretary's recommendations. Tho paper states that it is understood that there are still a few eases with t'lio magistrates which have not yet been docided.
