e~ SECOND DIVISION WAGES. INCREASE OP SIXPENCE PER DAT. Tlie wages of employees in the second division of tho State railway ssmeo are to bo increased by sixpence per nay. There arc a number of instances in v."inch no increase is provided. Tho increments are- scheduled in tho Government Kailways Amendment Hill, which was introduced last evening. In tho Traffic ami Stores Department 6hunters and crane-drivers are to bo classified in two grades. The maximum wago for second grade shunters is an increase of sixpence on the present rate, and that for the first grodo an inca'case of ouo shilling per day. Crane-Drivers in tho first grade will receive an increaso of sixpence, and those in the second gratlo ■will receive the same rate. The sixpenco per day increase is almost general in tho locomotive class. Tho following are to receive an increase of sixpence per day or more in the cases specified :— Sub-class I: Leading . tradesmen—Leading.- "fitters, turners, boilermakers, epringmakors, blacksmiths, carpoliters, patternmakers, painters, moulders, and coppersmiths (both grades). Other leading hands. Sub-class 2: Fitters, turners, boilermakers, springmakers, blacksmiths, carpenters, patternmakers, painters, _ moulders, coppersmiths, tinsmiths, trimmer?, and sailraakcrs (both grades). Boilermaker marking off new boiler-work; fitters marking off new work-; blacksmiths engaged oh new engine-work; angle-iron smiths, steel moulders. Sub-class i: Iron working machinists (both grades)., Sub-class 5; Strikers, holders-np, fettlcrs, and owing-machinists (both grades). Sub-class 6: Furnacemen and helpers (both grades). Sub-class 7; Labourers (leading). Sub-class 8; Engine-drivers and night foremen of cleanors (Is. per day in the first grade and Gd. per day in the second). Firemen (both grades). Washout-men, crane-drivers, shop-engincmen, and gas-, men (both grades). Sub-clnss 9: Train examiners and lifters (second grado only). Watchmen (3s. per Tiie increases in the maintenance division are provided for by the following:— Sub-class 1: Leading tradesmen—Leading masons and bricklayers. .Sub-class 2: Leading blacksmiths, fitters, and carpenters. Sub-class 3: Leading painters and plumbers. Sub-class 4: Tradesmen—Masons and bricklayers. Sub-class 5; Fitters, blacksmiths, carpenters, painters, and plumbers. Sab-class 7: Bridgemen. Sub-class 8; Donkey-engine drivers, crane-drivers, and shop. engine-men. Sub-class 9; Special hands—Strikers. A splendid mixed farm of 980 acres in Hawke's Bay is advertised for sale by Messrs. An alteration in the tramway time-tablo to Miramar is announced. A series of successes fell to tho lot of the Kudge Motor Cycle this summer in the Old Country. For instance, in tho severo Scottish Trials Inst July liudgo riders secured 4 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, 1 Bronze Medal, Team Prize, and "Itoirs" Prize, Then in August at Brooklands, tho Budge carried off First and Second Prizes in a Motor Cycle Handicap.
