NEW RAILWAY STATION.
PREAIIEIi'S QUEER COMPLAINT.
Wellington members of Parliament enjoyed the experience, at an early hour 011 Friday morning, of hearing (he Prime Minister complain bitterly that 0110 at least of their number had been unduly modest ill his demands in reference to llio (nmislruction of a new railway station in this city, lie stated that when Mr. Fisher and an ex-member for Wellington called upon him in reference to tho new station, they suggested that a plain substantial building would suSice; they ilid not want an ornamental structure. Tho Prime minister added that on hearing this he suggested that a good solid square box might be erected. It was not enticing to a public man oil occasions of this kind to be told that something plain and substantial was required. An application so stated loft it open to the applicant' to say afterwards: "Hero is the extravagance of tho Government.' 1 Mr. Fisher and his friend had known perfectly well that ho (the Prime Minister) would not inflict a railway station of tho class indicated upon a city &o important as Wellington. Mr. Fisher stated later that what ho had suggested to tho Prime Minister was a plain, practicable railway station, to replace both the Thorndon and Lambton stations.
