MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Biddell, S:ir.) THE WALLACEVILLE FIRE. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Henry Edward Whitcman and Leonard Edwards, were charged that on September 27, at WallaeevilTe, they did set firo to a building bolonging to George Leonard Wakeliu. They were further charged with breaking into tho dwelling al »l stealing several blankets, towels, ladies' and men's wearing apparol, fishing rods, and other articles, the total value being Jill Bs. 6d. j Chief Dotective Brobcrg prosecutcd, and , Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for Whiteman and Edwards. ] On tho application of Chief Detective Broberg, who stated that tho arrest had only taken place during the course of the previous afternoon. A remand was granted until October 25. Bail was allowed in J the sum of i'GO, or two sureties of '.£3O, in respect of each of the two accused. 1

LAMBTON QUAY AFFAIR. As the outcome of an arrest by Deteotives Cameron and Eawle on Tuesday afternoon, a man named Walter lionry Marsden was charged with breaking and entering tho premises of Abraham Berman, tobacconist, in Lambton Quay, on October IG. It was alleged that accused had stolen threo razors, a tobacco pouch, ami shaving soap, tho total valuo of tho articles being 30s. Marsden was further charged that about October 1G ho did break and enter tho premises of Wm. John Lankshear, stationer, Lambton Quay, and removo three gold-mounted pens and ss. in cash, tho total value being £7. On the application of Chief Detective Broberg accused was remanded until October 25. COMMITTED FOE TRIAL. Delia Pine, alias Booth, was charged that on October 9 sho did steal five X 5 notes, tho property of Clias. Cass. Evidence was given by Charles Casa and Detective Bawle, after which accused pleaded not guilty, reserved her defence, and was committed for trial at tho Supreme Court.

COMMON CASES. One first offender - for insobriety was convicted and discharged and, for a similar offence, Win. Wylan, alias Bryan, was remanded for sentenco until this morning. Violet Campbell pleaded not gtiilty to being an idlo and disorderly persijn. Tho evidence of two constables, however, was against her. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, and his Worship directed that she bo radically examined as to her mental condition. George William .Jackson was fined in default fourteen days' imprisonment. Ernest Allen and John Reynolds wero each charged with committing indecent acts, and both wero mulcted in penalties of .£5. The alternative in Allan's case was 14 days' detention and, in respect to that of Reynolds, one month, ONE YEAR IN GAOL. Walter Harris appeared on remand to answer two charges of a certain nature. He was sentenced to one year's imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. MAINTENANCE CASE'S. Frederick Johnston was ordered to pay 10s. a week towards tho support, of his wife. John Lowe, who appeared on romand on a charge of being the putative father of an illegitimate child was further remanded until October 25. Bail was nllowed the sum of .£IOO and one surety In a caso in which a man was charged with being the father of an illegitimate child and with having refused to maintain same, his Worship dismissed the information without calling evideneo for the defence. YOUTHFUL MARAUDERS. In the Juvenile Court' yesterday morning two lads appeared before Mr. W. G Itiddell, S.M., charged with the tlieft of 25 packets of cigarettes, a quantity of tins of sardines, and about 3s. worth of lead. It was stated in evidence that one of the boys had paid visits to a shop in Adelaide Road and had helped himself to tho above articles, subsequently entertaining his friends in a whare. Having been previously convicted of theft this lad was sent to Wereron. The other bov was ordered to receive five strokes of the birch.
