Deakin resumed the debate on tiro Industrial Arbitration Amendment Bill. 110 opposed the granting of the poueis proposed to be given tile Court, and taid tho Hill was based on the idea that nil industrial conditions could be fixed and regulated by a time-table. It meant separating craft from industry, and it would revolutionise or wreck the original Act to make such basic alterations. He moved an amendment that no mcawre, the effect of which would be to concentrate in tho hands of any ono person the control of all tho industries of the continent, can be other than impracticable, and fraught with danger to the whole community. Tho debate on tho amendment is proceeding. SERIOUS STOPPAGE IN WALES. London, October 17. There aro 0500 persons idle as tho result of tho haulers at the Cambrian mine striking. The strike arose through the management displacing a man for cruelty to a horse. ' (Rec. October 18, 9.15 p.m.) London, October 18. The Cambrian colliers have resolved that an investigation into tho dismissed man's grievances by a workmen's committee ought to have preceded a strike. A deputation interviewed the management, and withdrew the demand for tho man's reinstatement, and work is being resumed to-day.

WOMEN INTERVENE AT MOUNT LYELL. Hobart, October 18. A meeting of women at Queenstown resolved to ask the Mount Lyell miners to take a secret ballot to decide whether tho question of the reinstatement of tho man AVhito (whose dismissal is tho main cause of the trouble) will be dropped; also to ask White to leave tho district. It was also resolved that' the president and secretary of tho union bo asked to resign. (Rec. October 19, 0.55 a.m.) ; Hobart, October 18. Many residents are leaving tho Mt. Lyell districts, and thero is much ad.versa criticism of the Labour leaders' attitude in the strike.
