PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS.
CRITICISM BY LABOUR MEMBERS. By Telesraph—Press Association-Copyright Sydney, October 17. Speaking at Bathurst, Mr. E. S. Can(Labour member for Macqnarie in the Federal House) and Mr. Hollis (Labour member in the New South Wales Stato Assembly) practically declared against preference to unionists. Mr. Carr said the Federal Government could not compel it, even by Act of Parliament. Mr. HoIKs said that no union had a right to seek preference unless tho members constituted a majority of those employed. RAILWAY COLLISION. ACCIDENT IN NEBRASKA. A deputation from the Boilermakers' and Shipbuilders' Unions, accompanied by eighty unemployed, waited on the Premier (Mr. M'Gowen), and protested against the recent report of.the Royal Commission on shortage of labour in New South Wales. Mr. M'Gowen promised to consult the union secretaries before acting on tho recommendations contained in tho report. IMPLEMENT-MAKERS DISCHARGED. Melbourne, October 17. During tho week five hundred imple-ment-makers were discharged, owing to lack of work. Tho union is urging this as a reason against tho importation of skilled workers. Let J. J.
