LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

CHRISTIANITY AND THE WORLD.

Sir,—ln your issuo of last Saturday . there appears a letter over Dr. Borghctti'e signature on tho abovo subject, which I at any ralo consider ominenUy unfair. It is so choa.p to throw mud at tho Churches and tho ministers of religion, but is it not a little, contemptible, and is thcro not very often another side to the. question? Why. don't wo go to church.? I am one of- the* hon-goors myself, and I eay that tlxe real fault does not lio with the parsons, but with ourselves. Tho lovo of pleasure, the general prosperity, mid the freedom from dangers, in which the pro- ■ sent generation lias been brought up, aro tho real '■ causes. Tho ministers and churches both in England and New Zealand have ilono, and aro doing, good .work. WTiat ripht havo I, a member of. no ■ Church, to expect a minister of religion to look after my wife and family if I . die suddenly F It is my business to insure, my life against that risk. Again, in regard* to firo risk, it is my business to guard-against that. I am a family ma.Uk a worker at that, and I say that a family man should not tako those rislts. As for the starving children, when butter was ' up a few weeks ago, well Dr. 13. can tell ' that to tho marines—it won't go down here. The fnct of the matter is, anything is considered good enough to lay at tho door of tho ministers of religion and tho Churches. Let tho doctor ask himself this, Aro wo outsiders doing any better or oven haJf as well?—I am, etc., STRAIGHT.
