GENERAL FARMING NEWS.
Tho entries for tlic Wairarapa Show on Octobcr 25 and 20 give excellent promise of a better show than last year, especially in the sheep and cattle classes in brooders, who have not previously exhibited at Carterton, and bringing good teams. The British Board of Agriculture has adopted a scheme, formulated by tho Development Commissioners for considerable agricultural rcjoirsh work, involving an eexpenditure of .050,000 a year. The question of the use of 'filnctricitj; in agriculture will receive serious consideration. ■The failure of the root crops last year, says a Rangitikei writer, resulted in a high rate, of deaths in all classes of cattle, especially in the dairy herds, while those that pulled through will bo a long time getting into condition. Tho C'orinna, due from New Plymouth' to-day, is bringing 8000 boxes of butter and 700 'crates of cheese for shipment to London by tho Kotorua. The entries for the Wairarapa and East Coast A. and P. Society's show on October 25 and 26 have again come forward in largo, numbers. In some classes they far exceed those of former years, so that the society is assured of a show quite in keeping with tho high standard attained in provious years. One of the main features of the Wairarapa Society's Show will be the exhibit of dairy cattle. This far exceeds anything hitherto shown, although these classes have always been well represented. New exhibitors aro showing in th" purebred classes, and the section should attract many visitors.
