THE NEW POST OFFICE.

QUALITY OF THE STONE. Heferonce to tho quality of some, of tho stone that is at present being incorporated in tho new General Post Oilice was made in Parliament last evening by Mr. G. M. Thomson, M.P. Ho stated that ho had seen ono stono sent up which iiad been stiffened on a face with cement. To appearance it was badly "weathered." Mr. Thoin>on related also that ho had carried away a sample of stono from tho building, and it hnd crumbled in his waistcoat pocket. His general conclusion, to which ho invited tho attention of the Minister for Public Works, was that some of tho stono being used was in a disintegrating condition, and that a good deal of it was badly weathered. The Hon. B. M'Kcnzie stated that tho Government was represented on tho building by a most trustworthy and reliable inspector. Any complaints that had come to his ears had not been that thp stone was snft, but. that it wns so hard as to make, its workint difficult. He could not account for tho state of the stone mentioned bv Mr. Thomson, unless it was one that hnd been condemned. Mr. Thomson interjected that ho had seen the stone sent nn to be used. Mr. H.iTdy was proreediwr to corroborate whnt hnd fallen from Mr. Thomson, when the Minister raised a of order, contending that he h<vl answered the. nuestiVm put by Mr. Thomson, and that th« discussion con Id not nroeoed.
