COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho (toners Committee of tho Maslcrfon A. and I Association was held oil Saturday aftei noon, there being present: Messrs. II Morrison 'president!, D. Tho Horticultural Committee recom mended a reduction of tho prizo-moue; by about .Ell. Tile Ground Committee recommendei procuring of marquees and bell-tents fo: accommodation at tho show. Severa members also intimated their intention o procuring tents for individual use. The Finance Committee's report showei a debit of ,£17.i8 las. Tho report from the Members' Com mitteo ■ was read, and about sixty neu members were elected. Show Donations. Tho Wellington Racing Club donated ! sum of .£l2 10s. as prizes for horse events' Messrs. Abraham and Williams, a: agents for It. Robertson and Son, pro printers of tho "Highland" Sheep Dips, advised that a silver cup was being donated for competition in the sheer classes. The Hereford Breeders' Association in. twnated that a gold medal was being donated for tho best Hereford bullock, any age, at the coming show. Fish Ponds at Solway? Tho secretary of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce wrote stating that tho chamber had appointed a committee to confer with others interested with tho object of retaining the fish-ponds and hatcheries in Masterton. In this connection it was suggested that tho association might probably consider a proposal for a removal of the ponds to Solway. It was believed that the water thero was suitable for hatching a million trout-ova, and- that the nccessary drainage could 1» obtained at little cost, while the surroundings were iVell adapted for the purpose suggested. The president pointed out certain circumstances in connection with the existing fish-ponds, and suggested that a subcommittee should meet the Chamber of Commerce and report. Mr. W. J. Welch was of opinion, the matter affected tho whole activities of the •Ground Committee, who should know what was being done. It might b? subsequently discovered that tho grounds were unsuitable for such a purpose as that contemplated. On tho other hand, it mk'ht be considered advisable to take up the project. Ho moved that the matter be referred to the Ground Committee. Mr. 0. C. Cooper seconded tho resolution. Mr. J. C. M'Killop pointed - out that tho proposition which had been placed before the meeting was merely to'obtain a report.. . . . ■ . Mr. D. M'Gregor considered that the Ground Committer might prove unwieldy for tho purpose proposed. They ivould require to consult' the Acclimatisation Council on. the subject. 1 Mr. W. Perry , was of opinion that a small committee might do the work better in the meantime.' He irioved'BS an amendment that a sub-committee, .consisting of the president and Messrs. W. ,T. Welch and K. Gray, meet the Chamber of Commerco and other delegates, and report to tho Ground Committee. Mr. J. B. Moodie seconded the amendment. After soma discussion,■' Mr.'. Perry's amendment was carried on the casting vote of tho chairman. ' The Chamber of Commerce forjvarded a resolution passed in reference to.tho alteration of the namo of tho "Kurupuni raihvav station. It was decidcd that tho Chamber of Commerce be thanked, and asked to nominato a delegate to interview the Minister on the subject.. . . Agricultural School. A letter was received from the,secretary of the Wellington Education Board, stating that a conference of agricultural bodies and others interested would be held in Masterton on October 21, to consider the question of establishing an agricultural school for tho Wairarapa. . The president stated that this matter was of very groat importance to the agricultural community. An agricultural school, or college,' was badly needed. Tho president and Messrs. A. J. Perry and E. Harper were appointed delegates to tho conference. Show Trains Mr. Edwin nail, secretary of the New Zealand Agricultural Conference, forwarded a letter received from tho Minister for Railways with reference to the resolutions passed by the recent Agricultural Conference, urging that bettor provision be made for show stock. The Minister stated that, where tho amount of stock was sufficient, the Department at present ran special trains. If tho requirements in any particular district necessitated additional trains or faster services, tho question would be considered if special proposals were made. A letter was read from Mr. J. N. Johnston, treasurer of the Manawatu Association, suggesting that a deputation should wait'on the Prime Minister cn tho subject of devoting some portion of the receipts from the totalisator to subsidies for A. and P. Associations. Mr. 11. Morrison was appointed delegate from Masterton. General Show Matters, Mr. Alfred Matthews, representing, the Romncy Breeders' Association, waited upon tiie committee and asked for permission to hold a Roinney ram fair (of a limited number of first-class stud rams) at tli9 Masterton ram fair. The permission asked for -was granted, and a committee was appointed to confer with the Romncy Association on tho subject. Mr. Wm. Perry proposed that the show dates should be altered from Tuesday and Wednesday to Wednesday and Thursday, ne pointed out that Thursday was the half-noliday throughout the Wairarapa, and the change of dates would result in an increased attendance. Other members urged that the proposed change would seriously interfere with the ram fair, which is, at present, held on Thursday and Friday, and, on tho proposal being put to tho" meeting, it was lost. A. sub-comjnittee was set up to canvass Wellington for subscriptions for the next show, ■ The schedule for the jumping competitions was revised, and marshals and stewards were appointed for tho various classes at tho show. It was decided to add a bending competition to tho programme. A sub-committee was set up to appoint judges for the February show.
