W.R.F.U CONTROI" PHASE OF THE SOUTHERN TOUR, CENSURE VOTE CARRIED A mooting of tho Management Committee of tho 'Wclliiigton Rugby Union was held last night. There were present:— Messrs. S. Brown, ,1. Sweeney, K. Little, \V. Hurdham, W. F. Hornig, V, I'orry, H. O. lla!e*, .and IV. G, Talbot (weretury). It was decided to grant tho Publio Schools' Criokct Association the use of Athletic Park for cricket on Friday aftor--1)0011'.. The secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union forwarded tho names of a number of players, who had been disqualified for professionalism nJid other matters. It, was docid'xl to ask tho caietakor to report on th(i condition of Athletio Park, and ns to whnt top-drcsyiD£ will bo required. Tho expenditure on tho southern tonr was reported as about, ,£l7O. Mr. Sweeney stated that there was a matter in connection with the Eouthern tour which lie would like to mention. Ho noticed in the pres.s reports (hat tho team which had been played against Canterbury was not the team chosen by tho selectors. Mr. Little (manager of the team) explained that Gillespie had been chosen in place of Sullivan after a practice in Chriitchurch. Mr. Sweeney considered that, for the ur.st match of the tour, the team should have been played as selected. Tho soleotors had had a lot of criticism levelled at them this year, and it was not fair to them to Like out of the team a mail whom they considered fit to play, and to roplaco lijm by a man who was, at best, only fourth emergency to tho team. Tho chairman expressed himself in being in agreement with all that Mr. Swroupy had slid. Mr. Little stated that ho did not think that the function of the selectors extended further than picking so many men to go on tour. The actual fifteen who woro to play in any particular match should be chosen by the touring team's pe.lection committee, otherwise they might bo sent away with a team which might not 1)0 the bost to play under the conditions prevailing on the day of the match. Mr. Sweeney moved"Tliat this committee regrets the action of the manager ill connection with the Canterbury match ill not playing the team originally chosen." This was seconded by Mr. Perry. Messrs. Sweeney and Perry voted for the motion, and Messr.=. Hales mid Hornig against. Messrs. Little aad Hardham did not vote. The chairman then gave his vols for the motion, and declared it carried.
