Sir Edward Strachey, Parliamentary Secretary of the Hoard of Agriculture, states that tho foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Somerset is serious in nine centres. A natural aphis destroyer, in the shape of a small parasitical fly, has appeared in Bathurst orchards. It is reported that tho fly completely annihilates tho aphis. THE LATE MR. BATCHELOR. Adelaide, October 11. There was a large and representative gathering at the funeral of tho late Mr. Batchelor. Thousands lined the route of the procession, and signs of mourning wore general. The steamer Sydney, 5700 tons gross, .the first of n dozen large cargo vessels the German-Australian line expect to have running in the Continental-Australian trade bv the end of next year, has arrived.
