STARFISH, MUSSEL AND CRAB.

WARFARE OP THE SEA. An exceptionally fine specimen of a starfish, found in the sea at Little Port Cooper, Lyttelton Harbour, was brought to Christchurch on Tuesday morning. It measures about lSin. in diameter from tip lo tip of its feelers, and is deeii brickred in colour. In the cup-shaped cavity of its under-surface there was clasped tightly a mussel four inches and a half long, which the starfish was evidently devouring. On the principle that littlo fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum, the mussel, when cut open, was found lo contain a pea-crab. All throe creatures were quite alive when brought to Christchurch, although they had been out of their element for several hours.
