The definite proposal which was rnnsiilei'Cfl by tho committee -> the KelburneKarori route, and the report reads as follows:— (1) The route from the Karori tunnel to the Kelburne-Karori Cable Tramway terminus will be advantageous to the borrough for the following reasons:—(a) Because the cable company are prepared lo oiler a subsidy of -I'-iUO per annum for five years if the line is constructed, together with a concession to the Karori public, am! through passengers using their line, of a penny fare, each way. (b) In view of tile great, saving in car mileage and the consequent decrease in working expenses, the committee are of opinion that the interest and sinking funds would be met without an increased rate. (2) Although the foregoing appears to the committee to be solid argument in favour of the immediate construction of this route, yet, in view of certain difficulties which investigation has disclosed, the committee, in the meantime, are only prepared to advocate the following procedure Tho setting up of a committee to approach the Wellington City Council v.-ith tho object of discussing the scheme, and also to ask the city authorities to enter into negotiations "with the Kelburne-Karori Company for the purchase of their line, and, further, to ascertain the lowest price upon which tho company would be prepared to discuss the selling of their line to the city. H *'35 decided to hold a special meeting on iSovembcr 2 to discuss the proposals.
