TAXI CAB DRIVERS.
HOURS AND WAGES. (By TcleEraDh.—Press Association.) Christchurch, Octobor 10. Tlie Conciliation Council had beforo I® to-day demands mado by the taxieab drivers, tho principal being a 54-liours' week, a minimum wage of X 3 per week, casual drivel's to bo paid Is. 3d. per hour, and overtime at Is. Gd. per hour; drivers in constant employment at tho rato of time and a half for overtime. A long discussion took pJace iu regard to the wages claim. The Commissioner suggested tho old hours and 50s. a week, but tho employers' representatives, after consultation, stated that they could not sco their way to agreo to this owing to (ho poor profits received and tho heavy risks. Ultimately, tho parties arrived at an agreement, tho principal points being a minimum wage of 50s. weekly, and improvers or learners '12s. weekly; drivers of ears on tour to make arrangements with employers as to overtime, which would bo paid ut the rate of lOd. hourly, and drivers to join tho union within a month of engagement. At present thero aro eight industrial disputes, fourteen compensation cases and six other matters awaiting to be dealt with by tho Arbitration Court in tho Canterbury district.
