ROMNEY WOOL.
WHAT AN EXPERT SAXS,
■In a recent address on his favourite breed of sheep, Mr. Matthews, the wellkirown Romney expert, remarked that breeders were'not likely to agree as to til's 'best class of. wool a Eomney should carry, but one sliould. certainly try'to grow", the wool best suited to his own. particular locality. He resided in a district that was probably one of the windiest in the world, and had a very heavy, rainfall. The fleece that suffered least from bad weather was one that had a goad length' of. staple,, was: fairly dense, but opened freely, and was free from cross fibres. Such a wool would turn, rain liko a'. shingled roof, and at shearing timo .would' be found soft' and lustrous. The short-stapled, very dense class of wool did not:.winter well in any 'locality..... .Tho Romney, said "Mr. Matthews, is a long-wc-oileci sheep, and should be bred as such. ,'."-."■■■ . ..... ..
