CITY INQUEST. . DEATH OF MES. KEM SING. ■ Dr. M'Arthur, District Coroner, held an inquiry at the hospital on Saturday morning into tho circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Kern Sing, wife of Keni Sing, a local Chineso merchant. I Deceased had been placed under an anaesthetic by Dr. H. J. M'Lean and Dr. Woodhouse, for. tho purposo of an examination, but death supervened. Senior Sergeant Mathieson represented the police,' and Mr. C. K. Dix watched the proceedings on behalf of. deceased's husband. Dr. Philip Handal Woodhouse, senior house surgeon at tho hospital, stated that deceased had been admitted into tho hospital on October i as an urgent caso for observation. Witness examined her shortly after admission, and found that she was seriously ill, and that tho administration of an anaesthetic would bo necessary in order to complete the diagnosis. This was done on- Friday, but, shortly after coming out of coma, the patient collapsed, and all efforts at resuscitation failed. Upon examination it was found that a abdominal abscess was ruptured, and death was due to shock arising therefrom. When deceased, was coming out of coma she gavo a violent cough, and this was the probable cause of the rupture.
Dr. H. J. M'Lean, who was present at the examination, and administration of the anaesthetic, gave corroborative evidence. Ho added that he was quite sure that the administration of tho anaesthetic had nothing to do with tho cause of death.
After hearing the evidence of Kern Sing, husband of deceased, Dr. M'Arthiir gave a verdict that deceased met her death from shock, caused by tho rupture of an abscess.
