NEW SURF CLUB.
* On Tuesday evening a meeting was held at Jjyall JSay for the purple of forming a surf and life-saving club. The proposal was that the membership should be recruited from residents of the bay and Maranui, but. that othrrs interested should also bo eligible. There were about SO 'pjrsans present. .Mr. G. S. Hill (chairman of the local centre of the Itoyal Life Saving Society) presided. It was unanimously decided that tlio club be formed, and that it be known as "The Maranui Surf and Life Saving Club." The new club's objects are to teach swimming, encourage surfing, and to train its members in the methods of life-saving. Both ladies and men are eligiblo for membership. The following organising officers were Elected Secretory, Mr. W. C. Collier; treasurer, Mr. AV. 11. Ellis; secretary ladies' branch, Miss 0. Arthur; treasurer, ladies' branch, .Miss G. Melville; committee, .Misses M. Smith and M'Bean, and Messrs. J'J. M. Miniiie, J. Wilson, and V. fi. Clifford^ The Jirst year's subscriptions were fixed at 3s. (Id. for senior men members, and 2s. lid. for senior lady members, and Is. Cd. for junior members. I At tho conclusion of the meeting 90 members wcro enrolled, 21 of whom are [ ladies. |
