The following committee lias been appointed to carry out the military tournament which is to to' held here on December 29 and January 1:—Colonel D. Prin'le (chairman), Captains 11. H. Whyte, G. C. Hamilton, H. S. N. Robinson, J. Mounsey, N. S. G. HarpcT, H. Palmer, W. F. Levin, F. Foote, Lieutenants W. G. C. Smith and W. Allan, and Captain 8. Jickell (hen. secretary). Among tho new events on the programme is a doublelock brid?o competition for prizes of <£15 (first), and £b It will be the first time that this competition has been seen in this district. The detachment will consist of two noil-commissioned officers and twenty men. This will be one of the best events of the programme. The programme has been enlarged in otlior directions, and is extremely comprehensive, embracing all arms and sections of the service. Tho Scotch concert, recently organised by a number of ladies in aid of the High School fund, resulted in a profit of ,€ls, to which has , , to be added tho Government subsidy. At the Police Court to-day a negro, named George Green, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for indecency. Tho Wanganni Borough Council last night discussed in detail, and finally adopted tho drainage scheme (ens'. .012,000) designed by thu borough engineer (Mr. A. G. Muir). The council also decided to call tenders for the supply of material forthwith. The Hospital Board yesterday resolved to sot ui) a local Taihapo executive to deal with hospital matters there. Tho board discussed a suggested system of proportional representation, consequent on a letter from the Inspector-General asking for an opinion on the matter. The general feeling seems to be that town areas should combine among themselves, and not eombino with counties as at present. This was reasonable, on account of the different franchises, and the town-; be-in" able to swamp the country vole.
