MEETING OP REFEREES. THE IVES CASE. A meeting oi' the Wellington Referees' Association ("socoer" game) was held last evening, Mr. C. E. Fordham presiding. Tho meeting went into committeo immediately after opening. A long discussion ensued over the sentence imposed upon Ives, centre forward for Corinthians, who was ordered off the field in the Corinthian-Swifts match recently. The sentence (previously imposed) was that the player should stand down until March 31, 1912. This means that the player is only, prevented from taking parl in ono or two matches, because it is practically tho end of the season now. As the 3912 season commences in April next year the meeting was opinion that tho sentence was too light. Finally, Mr. W. Wells moved tho following resolution: "That a letter be sent to tho Wellington Football Association stating that, in the opinion of this body the punishment meted out to Ives was c|uito inadequate, and casts a reflection on the referees as a body. Should tho W.F.A. decline the rc-ojien tho case the referees rcrjnest that their protest, bo forwarded to tho New Zealand Football Association for consideration." This was seconded by Mr. B. L. Salmon and carried. WELLINGTON CONTROL BODY.
A mceling of the Wellington Football Association was held in tho Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. Present: Mr. IT. N. Holmes (in the chair), Messrs. Williams, Stevens, Dick, Thompson, Paten, Salmon, Duncan, and Walls. A letter was received from tho Wellington Rugby "Union stating that at prer.enl it was unablo to say whether the park would be available for Charity Cup matches, but in a few days it would bo in a position to advise definitely.
Tho secretary of tho Wanganui Association wrote afking whether tho Wellington Association intended to send a to-am to Wanganui this year. It was resolved to replv s-tat'ing that such a team could not be disuatcliect this year.
Tho manager of the representative loam which played Canterbury last Saturday reported that the conduct of tho team had bren excellent. The gate receipts, however, had proved disappointing. The match between the Vivian Street Baptist , Church and Brooklyn Methodist Church is to b(> played on Xo. 8 ground at Miramar, on September 23. No. D ground has been allotted to tho "house" match between rcprc-nntativps of Me?srs. Turnbull, Hicks. Gootler and Co., and C. M. Banks, Ltd. It was decided to play the semi-final bft'ween Rovers and Y.M.C.A. at. Miramar on September 27. SATURDAY'S GAMES. The third annual smoke concert of the Government Insurance Hockey Club was held last evening at the Institute of Harins Engineers, Mr. J. H. Richardson presiding. The following toasts were honoured: "Government Insurance , Department," "Government Insurance Hockey. Club," "Kindred Sports and Clubs," "Wellington Hockey Association," "Tho Ladies," and "Absent Friends." During the evening musical and other items were contributed by Messrs. He has not made up his mind whether to meet Barry on the Thames, if challenged, or to invito him to row on the Parramatta. If Barry is willing to come, he would offer him .5150 expenses.
