POISONING TIMBER.
A report from Manila states that Mr. C. Baker, of -Woodstock, has successfully killed about ten acres of heavy timber, sound box, by poisoning methods. He used 2111). arsenic and ,71b.. soda in five gallons of water',' allowing' to boil and then simmer until tho whole of tho arsenic and soda was well dissolved. In application, a small toacupful of tho mixture was used on a largo tree. The plan was to cut one chop down right round the tree, and in this pour l the mixture from a teapot, tho hole in tho spout of which had been reduced to a size of about that of a penholder. Three weeks after tho trees wero treated, the leaves had turned white, and Mr. Baker is quite convinced tho trees aro dead.
