« ORPHANS CLUB'S EFFORT. (By Tclecrranh.—Soecial Correspondent.) Palmerston, September 17. A full house greeted llio' Wellington Orphans Club at the Opera House last night, when an entertainment was given in aid of the fund which is being raised to build a children's ward at the Palmerston Hospital. The programme was a diversified one, and proved very enjovablo, most of the items being encored. ' The Wellington visitois were entertained by the^ local Savage Club after the concert." The Palmerston bowling green will be opened for the current season on October ■1 by the president, Mr. ,J. A. Nas'.i. Invitations to attend the cnening have been sent to all the bowling ciubs in the surrounding district. Two men, named Peter Olson and Denis Sheenn, were brought up at the Police tourt yesterday on charges of assaulting the proprietors of a Chinese laundry, named ,ke Ben and Joe Roy. After hea'r- '?£' ev 'f' eilco magistrate fined Shecrin £3 and costs, a week being allowed in winch to find tlic inoivoy, Olson's fin-c nnd costs amounted to .£7 3s. Gd., with the alternative cf seven <lays in gaol.
