A big Maori meeting at To luiiti was opened on Saturday, wlion Sir James Carroll was welcomed to the town by the Mayor. Alter speeches by residents and visiting.Natives I'cpene ijcotono addressed the gathering, and was Jollowod by the Hon. A. T. Ngata and Sir .lames Carroll. The subjects discussed included Maori customs combining of tho Maoris in both islands, religion, the laws of the country, and the Young Maori party. In view of tlie coming Maori poll these speakers also addressed a pakelni gathering in tho evening.
