The Lj-t toll on Harbour Board fo-da.v decided it was desirable to establish a superannuation fund for its employees. It is proposed to obtain an actuarial report on the subject, and to raise the question at the annual conference of Harbour Boards, with a view to ascertaining the possibility of united action. Tho Harlxmr Board adopted the scheme proposed by Mr. Holmes,, engineer lo the Public Works Department, for the extension of tho breakwater from 200 to 300 feet. A deputation will wait on tho Mayor this afternoon to ask for assistance. THE NECESSARIES OF LIFE. Auckland, September 5. The Waterside Workers' Committee appointed to consider tho excessive cost qf the necessaries of life reported to-day that it had failed to discover any remedy that could be deemed practicable so long as production remains in the hands of a class. Tho committee urged the workers to organise industrially and politically upon a class basis, so that they would be able to supplant the present system of distributing the necessaries of life with a system of .national democratic ownership, which alone-could remove tho anomaly complained of. The report was adopted without discussion. MYSTERIOUS OCCURRENCES. Palmerston N., 'September 5. A mysterious iiro occurred at Longburu between 4 and 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning, a 4-rooniod house being destroyed.
