[By Glxxcob.] Last year's Melbourne Cup winner, Comedy King, will nialco his fii'st public appearance (his season in tho Meinsic Stakes—a wcight-for-age race run over a nine-furlong course at the V.A.T.C. ■meeting at Caulfield to-day. Ho will bo ridden by W. 11. M'Lachlan. Other horses likely to run at this meeting, in which New Zealand sportsmen will bo interested, are Soultiform, who has not so far been produced in Melbourne, and Zealand and Gunboat, both of whom have started nnd have had defeats recorded against them. 11. Gray, who will ride tlio trio, has been in Melbourne nearly three weeks now. It may bo mentioned that the boom which surrounds Soultiform has not influenced Mr. Menzics, as he recently put the minimum impost on tho little son of Soult in a six-furlongs race at Williams-town. S. Reid, who went on a holiday trip to Dunodin at tho close of tha C.J.C. National meeting, is leaving there on Monday, and will be riding at tho Marfan meeting on Wednesday and Thursday next. Jockeys A. Oliver and T. Pritcbard intend going north for the Avondalo mooting. In tho absenco of Whittaker and Gray in Australia, the horsemen mentioned above should bs able to secure plenty of patronage. C. Emerson, who can always go to scale at tho minimum impost, and, consequently, is in much demand with owners for riding work, has been located at Trentham during the week. Ho is riding members of W. Davies's team. When T. Pritcbard steered. Sylvia Maid bo-mo in tho Final Steeples at the Wairarapa Hunt Clnb meeting, it was his first winning ride over country since Morcosin won tho Wanganui Steeples in 1000. Trainer W. Garrett, of Opaki, who was negotiating for the purchase of a Treadmill colt from the CJliokel>oro stables, did not conclude tho purchase. Kangiatua is galloping very freely at Awapuni, and is fast coming back to his two-year-old form. Tlio black colt went very well over five furlongs on Tuesday morning, Kopane has been sold out of the Ilighden stables, and will, in futuTo, bo raced by a Mastorton owner. Another unnamed Sir Laddo youngster will also carry tlio new owner's colours. Toanga is again slightly amiss, and will not bo a runner at Marton. Tho report that Sir Knox is an unlikely runner in tho Maiden at Marton turns out to bo incorrect. Tho chestnut colt goes north on Monday. Melbourne files to hand show that Masonic's correct weight in the Ascot Thousand (to be run next Thursday) is 10st. 31b., and net list. 31b., as has been published. Another ex-New Zenlander— Merrie Oliver—has 9st. 91b. The latter ran fourth in last year's race after getting a very bad passage. A Press Association telegram from Marton slates that Sir Knox, Topic, and Julian have been scratchcd for all engagements at tho Marton Jockey Club's meeting. Messrs. Young and Collins, of Wanganui, havo donated a gold-mounted riding whip to bo presented to the rider of the winner of tho Hunt Cup at Marton next Wednesday. The Marlborough Racing Clnb has issued the programme for its spring meeting, which takes place on October 11 and 12. As usual tho club is providing liberal prize money, and owners will limi tho programmo worthy of perusal.
