'/SOCIAL" AND DANCE. A pleasant little "social" and dance, arranged by the ladies of the Dominion Stall at the forthcoming local Catholic bazaar, was held in St. James's Hall, Lower nutt, last evening. There were about 100 guests present, th'cse including many from Wellington and Petone. Mr. Bridger and > Mr. Bates wero joint secretaries. Dancing was interspersed with instrumental and vocal items. PETONE,'MUNICIPAL BAND. Tho annual general meeting of tho Petone Municipal Brass Band was held in the band room, Jackston Street, this week, the president (Mr.-J. W. M'Ewan) occupying the chair. The secretary's report was read and adopted. It recorded the general progress made by tlie band during the year. The balance-sheet showed receipts if *.£225 and a cash balance of .El 7s. Gd. Tho liabilities of the band had been reduced from .£l5O to XIOG net. Tho balance-sheet was also adopted..

Rose; librarian, Mr. E. Jenkins; conductor, Mr. A. Ivaye; drum-major, Mr. 11. Rose; band-sergeant, Mr. R. W. Jones; corporal, Mr. J. Weir; committee, Messrs. Swaysland, Francis,' Watson, Eason, and Weir. ■ Votes of thanks wero passed to Mcsdamcs Ferguson, W. Weir, 11. Rose, and all who took part in the performance of "Cinderella," for their valuablo assistance rendered to the band. IJamlsman Dodson, having attended every practice and turn-out. of the band during the year, was presented with ' a gold medal, donated by llamlsman Shardlow, now of the Wanganui Garrison Hand. Mr. .T. Rose secured the president's prize of a gold medal for attendances at practices. The retiring secretary (Mr. 11. W. Hutchinson! and the retiring treasurer (Mr. W.
