IMMIGRANTS FOR N.S. WALES.

A STEADY STREAM. By Telegraph—Press Association- Copyright London, August 30.

The Agent-General lor New South Wales (Mr. T. A. Coghlan) will dispatch to Now South Wales next month 2-100 assisted and nominated emigrants. Ten steamers have been engaged. The Norseman, sailing on tho lGth, takes 520; the Pakelia, sailing on the 19th, 1000; and tho Tahiti (late Port Kingston), 350. NOT ENOUGH SHIPS AVAILABLE. "Tho advertising of Australia in London is being dono exceedingly well by Sir George Reid," remarked Mr. Batchelor, Commonwealth Minister for External Affairs, .last week. "Whether it is necessary to do any moro depends on what is the object of the advertising. Only a small percentage of the immigrants who offer arc selected- —it is impossible to get sufficient accommodation on tho steamers. There is no difficulty in getting tho people to offer. Of cmrse, if tho object is to get a particular ki?id of settler, that is always worth doing. It may be necessary, for instance, to get people with money, who are prepared to take up land and work it, and with that in view money would be well spent. ...... "I had more than ono interview with the Agents-General regarding cooperation, and offered tho services of tho High Commissioner. I assured them that they would have no difficulty in getting whatever assistance was needed—the only trouble was to get. the ships to carry tho immigrants. If those who talk so much about the necessity which exists for the Government to show moro energy in inducing immigration would use their influence in the direction of making provision for more accommodation, they would lie doing the best thing possible to help immigration. "All the Australian Premiers who visited England agreed that it was necessary to have one big office in London for tho housing of Australian Governmental agencies. At present these offices are scattered all over London—a very inconvenient arrangement. I saw the chairman of tho London County Council, and have the .final offer of what is knewn as the 'island site' in the Strand. The offer will bo placed before the Cabinet with a- view to submitting it to Parliament at tho earliest opportunity. It will certainly occupy a very fino position, and necessarily will be very conspicuous—a gcod advertisement for" Australia. We, think Australians having business interests in London-will take offices in the building—that should be tho Australian quarter."
