The Anglican Bishop of Ripop (Dr. Boyd Carpenter) has announced his intention of resigning, owing to physical reasons. , ' . * ' Dr. Boyd Carpenter, who is 70 years of age, is one of tho greatest preachers of the Anglican Church. He had a distinguished career at Cambridge, being Senior Optime in the'mathematical tripos in 1861. Ho was Hulsean Lecturer at Cambridge in 187S and Baiupton Lecturer at Oxford in 18S7. He has been Bishop of Ripon since 1884.
