SALT ASA STOCK FOOD.

VIEW'S OF, AN EXFERT. Referring to the value of salt as a slock food, Mr. B. C. Aston, F.I.C, F.C.S., of the Agricultural Department, pays that, ptssibly owing to 'tlie fact that New Zealand for the greater part is swept .by salt ski winds it hn's been found unnecessary in many parts to give animals a salt lick. Animals would, however, say's .Mr. Aston, do hotter with more .salt than is supplied in tho natural pasture, especially in tho ii.land situation.-., which an' shielded from tho sea winds by ranges of mountains. Animals fed on mangolds, which contain more sodium than potassium, need .no salt lick, but the reverse, is tho case with animals fed on turnips, which contain much more potassium than sodium. An execs; of salt, however, is.very injurious to pigs, and it is best not to Rive them any except that existing naturally in their food. Speaking generally, Mr. Aston says a plentiful supply of common salt (s'o-dium-chloride) is a necessary ingredient in the food ration, of all ruminating animals if it is desired to maintain them in their best condition, and if the. salt 's not present in sufficient quantity in tho natural food it must be supplied as ,1 lick in the form of rock or coarse salt.

Dairy farmers must have strong serviceable and easily-cleaned cans. Victor is the namo of tho can that suits every requirement, and it pays handsomely to use '.Sheso cans and no others. Every lid will jjt every can. Send for a catalogue to Albert J, Farton, 'Carterton, *
