AGITATION ABOUT A SITE. The selection of a site for new University College buildings in Auckland is causing much agitatiou among the people of tho' northern city. The Minister for Education has introduced a Bill which proposes to vest in the University College Council a portion of the Government House grounds, comprising .'ij acres, popularly known as the Metropolitan Grounds, and while a section of the community, including tho College Council, approves of the site, on tho ground that it is commended by its central position, there is much opposition to tho proposal. Petitions expressing intense indignation at the proposal to "filch" a portion of n public domain have been circulated, and the first instalment of them, bearing 1710 stenatnrcs was presented in duplicate to tlio Ifouso of Ucprosentativcs and the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon. The Minister for Education has agreed to lwslnoiio his motion for the second reading of the Bill until next Friday.
