THE DESTITUTE PERSONS ACT. A curious point bearing on the ecojw <h tho Destitute Persons Act, 1910, cropped up in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Two men wcro proceeded against by their sister to contribute to the support c.f her child, on the ground that they wero near relatives. They were the child B ""irT'F. P. Kellv, who appeared for the brothers, said that lie did not think there was any power under tho Act to inal;o an uncle snpoort .1 nephew, whether tho nephew was legitimate or illcgitamato. in this ca s e the child was illegitimate, ho understood. Ho held that the of "near relative" did not cover uncles; it applied to ascendants and descendants, but not to "collaterals.
