AUCKLAND WEATHER.
A GREAT CONTRAST. (By Telegraph.—Special Corrcepondent.l Auckland, August 14. The weather during tho first 12 days of August this year offers a very great contrast to the same period of last year. In August, 1910, rain fell on 10 days out of the 12,. and the total fall Amounted to 3.76 inchus, of which 2.48 inches fell on onii day. This year rain has only fallen on five days out of tho 12, the total amounting to the small figure of ,57in. Thus it will be seen that last year's fall wa? considerably more than six' times the fall that has been experienced this year, but it must be borne in mind that last August was an unusually wot one, the total fall amounting to u shade under 6in. The heaviest rainfall experienced so far this month in one day was c.n tho 2nd, jvlicn 30 points were registered. Another peculiarity in the weather of tho last fortnight has been tho extraordinary liigh n-ailings of the barometer. On tho 7th it rose as high as 30.<i4, being tho highest recorded at Auckland for a considerable time. However, si'nee that date tho glass has been slowly falling, its lireBent height corrected to sea level being 20.93. A few showers fell on Friday night, the total amounting to only 10 points, but it does not look as if the line weather has reallv broken up, and tho giass. although lower, is still remarkably steady.
