CHURCH EXTENSION MOVEMENT.

. —« MEETING' OF METHODISTS. • The annual meeting of the Wellington Methodist Council for Church Extension was held last night. The Eev. J. G. Chapman presided. The annual report stated that there was urgent need for the continuance of operations for church extension in tho city and suburbs. The year had not l>een marked by any noticeable growth of enthusiasm, bnt it was hoped that the future would see- a revival of the spirit of whol.D-.'ioiiled aggressiveness in the cause. J!H-i7 ss. 7d. Itatl been leceivod in throe years, including .SIM) (the value of the WoTfcr Bay Church site). From this total two churches, completed, viz., Island 13ay and Brooklyn, had been bellied by the payment of .£IOO each. The Central Mission had been helped to tho extent of .£l5O, and Wellington South Circuit, had received assistance by the payment of .£SO on a site at JjJaUitai, which had been supplemented by the payment of rates and interest on purchase money. The treasurer anticipated that ,£542 might yet be expected to be realised from tuo promises made at the inauguration of tho tund. The balance in hand was .£lls Bs. The following officers were elected at tho council meeting in July:—President, Rev. J. G. Chapman; vice-presidents, Rev. J. Ward, Messrs. J. I.omas and W. E. Redstone; treasurer. Mr. C. H. Jones; assistant treasurer, Mr. ¥. Chinchen; secretary,' Mr. J. K. Raudcrsoij. The property trustees wero Messrs. Tiller, Jones, and Kimdorson. Tho chairman said the movement of Church extension, had justified its existence. Notwithstanding some faint-hcaiied-liess, that meeting was -a vigorous protest against that faint-heartodness. The meeting wae a mooting of Methodists, not of pessimists. He wished to strike a hopeful note, and urged the meeting to make a great effort to extond the Church in Wellington and its surroundings.
