OBITUARY.
MR. JONATHAN DIXON. (By Telegraph—Prose Association.! Westport, August 10. Tho death occurred this evening of Mr. Jonathan Dison, district manager for tho Westport Coal Company. Deceased was 53 years of age. . He was for about 16 years a mine manager in New South Wales, ami took a prominent part in tho recovery and restoration work in connection with several colliery disasters in, that Stats. Ho camo to New Zealand in 1890, and entered the Westport Ccal Compauy's service as manager of the Millerton mines at Granity. ■ He returned in 1900 to New South Wales, whero ho was, for about two years, a Government Inspector of Mines.' Mr. Dixon came back to New Zealand in 1903, and took charge of the Denniston miites in July of that year, and, subsequently, was appointed district manager for the company. Hβ was a member of the Federated Institute of Mining Engineers, England, and a member of the Board of Examiners for New Zealand. He leaves a widow and n family of seven, one son being manager of th; Westport Coal Company's Coaljjrookdalo mine.
