HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

.. , . .—» . MONTHLY MEETING. The'Hutt County Council met yesterday. The inspector's report recorded the fact that tho biggest flood for many years occurred in the Pakuratahi and Mangaroa Rivers during the recent heavy rains. The Pakuratahi bridge had been- considerably damaged" in consequence. In every part, of the Hutt County slips and washmits had occurred. The greater portion of the. damage'had now, however, been repaired. ' . '

The council decided to forward one remit to the .County Councils' Conference. This remit will propose that in regard to Government loan instalments simple interest shall be paid on the total loan for a fixed date, and the instalments shall not be treated as separate loans.

A claim by Messrs. Stafford and Treadwell (on behalf of Mr. J. Walker) for compensation in regard to land taken for the Pahautanui-Plimmerton Road, was held over until the special meeting on August 26. A subscription circular was received from the promoters of the Taylor Memorial Fund, and it was decided that subscriptions could be left at the county office.
